Baskets for use with open solid fuel fires & gas fires

If you are looking for high heat output and high efficiency, then this is most definitely NOT the fire for you!  If, however, you don’t need the heat output but want the live dancing flames of either an open solid fuel or gas basket, then scroll on down!

The dull but really important stuff about decorative open fire baskets!  Large fireplace openings are renowned for poor effective flue draught and the opening may need to be reduced in size in order for the chimney to be able to pull away the products of combustion. A working canopy may help but not in all cases.  It will  be necessary to have an air-vent to an outside wall that is permanently open - whether you have a gas fire or solid fuel.  The size of the vent or vents will be determined by the size of the throat of the opening into the flue but it will not be less than 9” by 9” (230mm by 230mm) & you may have to have more than one of these.  These types of fire baskets are likely to be phased out of the coming years as part of the energy efficiency drive.
